March 2025

I began composing my blog in March, it was a slow start as I didn’t know anything about website building but I got some help from Ben Dwyer so now it’s up and running now.

I spent a bit more time at the bike track, Sandies, by the canal and repaired my MTB and my Dad’s bike which I really enjoyed. I might go and see if there’s any work at the local bike shop.

Today was a bad day in the workshop. I was working on my tap wrenches and my job was to drill two holes of different sizes and a counterbore over one hole into each block of the tap wrench. Instead of doing that my mind went on autopilot, drilling two holes the same size and two counterbores over both holes. This meant 10 block (out whole stock) had to be scrapped and will have to be repeated…..

The failed bodies

Lets just say I was glad I finisned college for the week.

However, I went and did my voluntering at the Salvation Army for my DofE programme and someone had donated a huge collection of Beasts & Beings figures! There was a grim reaper that I liked and a red dragon that reminded me of Thorn from the Inheritance series but I didn’ want to spend money on both so I snached up the grim reaper figure.

I also won a bid for a camcorder. I thought I’d try it out, use it on my DofE and maybe use it to capture MTB videos and see what else I can do with it. i figured if I didn’t use it much I could just re-sell it.

The camcorder came! It comes complete with everything I need to operate it which is great. However, I booted it up and it came up with an error code (EO1) and it seems like I can’t use it’s full capabilities. After checking the listing again I saw that it was selling for parts but maybe I can still use it in its ‘Memory’ mode. Oh well, at least it wasn’t too expensive.

Today I spent the majority of the day clearing out the front garden. It’s quite messy and just a collection of bulbs and old bushes and my parents wanted to start a clean slate so I decided to do them a favour and clear it out. Initially I thought I wouldn’t get it all done but as I progressed I optimized my methods and got it all done in the end. Not exactly sure what we’re gonna do with it yet, might knock a post down and remove some more dirt to make a bigger parking space so we’ll see.

Today, me and my machining team at college made a HUGE comeback. In three sessions we were able to get back to where we were last week, the week I butchered our stock πŸ˜πŸ’€. We actually managed to progress further than that and we were able to get onto the lathes to calibrate the 4 jaw chucks so we could begin drilling the holes for the handles to screw into. I reckon if all goes to plan we could get the rest of the machining done before the half term.

Calibrating the 4 jaw using a DTI gague and drilling the holes.

I got my exam results back for my engineering course. I got a pass in my principles exam and a near pass in my design exam. I was really irritated however I soon found out that I might not have to retake it. This is becasue the course is assesed hollistically and if I retake my exam and get a pass it won’t increase the overall grade. It sounds weird, I know, but I’ve got to decide soon otherwise I won’t be put through for it. Other than that, I got the hanging rack built, which was good I just need to install it now.
