It was Oliver’s birthday today, we got him a tortoise along with some other gifts. Me and Dad just need to make the tortoise a table for its home to sit on. It shouldn’t be too hard as it’s just cutting a long piece of wood into four identically sized legs. After that we just have to cut a large area of wood to the length and width of the tortoise home which also isn’t too complicated. Then we’ll just have to screw it all together, sand it and varnish it. Easy right?

One day till my DofE Gold practice expedition! I’ve got all my equipment and food so I should be good to go. we’re heading to The Peaks so it’ll be a spectacular time and I’ll make sure to enjoy it and take some scenic pictures. Afterwards though it will be the easter hols where I’ll return to work at Pier 52. It should be alright though, I’ve had to do a Level 1 Safeguarding and Child protection course too which was alright, though you learn about some pretty nasty stuff which, well, … I’ll let you do the research how about that? Anyway, all very important stuff to be aware of so I’ll make sure to keep my eye out. Anyway, I need to do the exam now so ’till nex time.

Last weekend I completed my Gold Practice expedition for my DofE programme. We did it in the Peak District and total, we walked 70km or 43.5miles. I did it with a couple of friends from secondary so it was one big group which I preffered over smaller groups. The weather was quite pleasant overall, didn’t really rain, and I saw some amazing views and features. Overall, the hikes weren’t that hard. My legs didn’t hurt at all really and the only places that ached a bit were my lower back and shoulders from carrying the kit. It was just long but I didn’t mind that much.

On another note, I’m currently on my way down to camborne for another youth weekend. The train ride has been pretty smooth so far, finding seats was easy, so it should be good.

I also resumed work at the pier for the easter season which has been good. More info in the pier section of the blog.

Camborne yw was great! I loved being somewhere a bit more wild and free while I spent time with friends. The talks seemed to be good especially the last one. The trip back was VERY long though as there was plenty of traffic, and then our ride locked their keys in their van! Luckily, one of the windows was unlocked so someone crawled through the window to unlock the van and we were on our way.

Work at the pier has been pretty easy tbh, we’ve introduced a new HAF programme for special needs children and that hasn’t been too hard to operate either so when I’m not in the cabin painitng, I’m either on the pier getting people on equipment or on the water with a paddleboard enjoying the weather. Win win either way. Anyway, I’m glad I’ve worked over easter as my bank account has come close to broke over the past few weeks so it’ll be good to top it up and try to save a bit (again).

I sold that broken (sort of) camcorder too which was good as it was taking up space under my desk. I sold it on vinted for £16.50 which is a fair price for something that probably won’t get fixed. I did put that in the description too so I wasn’t ripping anyone off or scamming anyone lol. So that’s helped bring my bank account back up a bit.

I’ve done lots of work on guitars recently, I got new components for my telecaster so I installed thoes and then decided to take the cover off the neck pickup so it’d look cooler. Unbenowns to me, the neck cover is actually used to ground the guitar so when I took it off I got a horrible hum-buzz from the amplifier. I tried to install the cover on again and fix it but that didnt work and then I fiddled with the connecting wires a bit and before I knew it I cut the tiny copper hair attaching the wires and the coil and broke the pickup… I think I’ll put that project on hold for a bit as I REALLY don’t have the funds to carry on spending money on guitar components 💀.

However, i ‘ve also been working on a classical guitar I got from a charity shop for £10 which is a nice change form the metal and solder smoke I encounter when working on the telecaster. To restore it a bit I polished the frets. cleaned and oiled the fretboard, replaced the machine heads as one had snapped and replaced the strings. It’s nice to have a guitar that’s a bit smaller and softer (in sound) as I can actually store it in my room and create softer melodies, opening myself up to different genres.

I FINALLY finished Murtagh this week. It was a really interesting book as it really opened up the world of Alagaësia and poked at it’s dark past along with new characters, secrets and the way the world works. I did feel that the book ended slightly abruptly though, similar with Inheritance, but I still enjoyed it and look forward to reading The Fork the Witch and the Worm which, if you’ve read Murtagh, suggests a connection between the two by its title.
